My Thoughts on the Passing of Steve Jobs

There will undoubtedly be much written about the contribution that Steve Jobs made to mankind.  It is almost impossible to describe the magnitude of his impact – on almost every person in the world.    My thoughts immediately turn to one of my high school English classes, and an excerpt from a poem that I continue to carry in my memory:  A Psalm of Life by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

This, written more than 170 years ago, and published in The Knickerbocker prior to 1839:

Lives of great men all remind us

We can make our lives sublime,

And, departing, leave behind us

Footprints on the sand of time.

What a wonderful example, and challenge, to lead our lives to the fullest, taking action that will make a contribution.
