An international expert on leadership in the performing arts and music business, Mary Carlson has placed CEOs and artistic directors at major arts organizations from Sydney to New York and most places in between.
She is a market leader in recruiting executives for a broad range of performing arts organizations, venues, festivals, record companies, music publishers, artist management companies, conservatoires and foundations. In addition to leadership roles, she has expertise in recruiting managers of functional areas such as technical and production, marketing and communications and development and artistic administration. In recent years, she has expanded her services to include board development and recruitment.
Mary spent the early part of her career in management positions at the New York Philharmonic, Radio City Music Hall and New World Records. After moving to London, she was engaged as a management consultant before focusing on marketing and public relations for many international orchestras and performing artists.
From 2010-2013 Mary managed an Intern Abroad Program for New York University/Steinhardt School graduate students in arts administration. She holds a B. Mus from Manhattanville College, an M. Mus from Northwestern University and an M.Sc from Columbia University, Graduate School of Business. Mary is currently taking courses towards board certification at the Institute of Directors in London.
