The majority of my coaching clients are middle to senior level executives and business owners in a diverse range of industry sectors. With a strong background in general management at the CEO level in entrepreneurial environments, I particularly enjoy connecting with business owners and have served as a mentor and personal coach to many leaders of early stage companies. I have coached numerous individuals in functions that include CEO, General Manager, Executive Director, CFO/ Finance Directors/VPs, Marketing Directors/VPs and Operations Managers as well as having provided integration coaching for clients who have recently assumed new positions.
An investor group hired me to coach the owner/operator of a high volume but unprofitable restaurant to develop his management and leadership skills. This six month assignment resulted in the owner implementing new operating systems and staff policies resulting in improved financial performance.
The owners of an early-stage retail establishment engaged me to coach the President through a period of growth and expansion. The process which spanned a two-year period had a positive outcome and today the business has three successful locations.
After graduating from business school I acquired some real-life experience in the banking and restaurant industries before embarking on a lengthy career in private enterprises.
Prior to joining Harris Consulting in 2005 I was active in the manufacturing sector in which I was the founder and CEO of one manufacturing business in 1972 which was sold in 2004 and the co-founder of a second manufacturing business which was sold in 1999. Over those years I developed a strong background in general management and administration with extensive experience in private enterprise, international business and non-profit organizations. In addition, I recently served as the President of a Private Equity firm for seven years in which my primary function was to serve as a mentor and personal coach to the owners of many early stage companies.
Community service has always been important to me as a counterbalance to business and I have served on the Board of Directors of a variety of community-based organizations, serving as Board Chair of most. Currently I am the Past-Chair of Habitat for Humanity Manitoba and a Director of the Deposit Guarantee Corporation of Manitoba.
I have over 20 years of experience as a Management Consultant/Coach to varied small to mid-sized manufacturers, distributors and service providers and am the Senior Vice President and Partner in the Cornerstone Winnipeg location, Harris Leadership Strategies.
I recently received the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors through the Rotman School of Business and earned an MBA from the University of Western Ontario with majors in Finance and Marketing. Other training and designations include Certified Management Consultant (CMC), Associate Certified Coach (ACC) with certification through the International Coach Federation, and Cornerstone Certified Executive Coach.
Building leadership capacity is what we do of which leadership development coaching is a critical component. By focusing on the key leadership competencies that will determine successful performance we can facilitate personal growth in self-confidence to achieve objectives and tackle roadblocks.
Our approach is primarily non-directive where the client, with input from the sponsor organization where appropriate, carries the responsibility of identifying areas to address as well as the responsibility for self-learning. Working in a strictly confidential environment, in my role as the coach I act as a resource, a guide and an advisor.
