July 28, 2007: At their global conference held in Honolulu, Hawaii, Cornerstone International Group elected their new Board of Directors for fiscal year 2007-2008, which runs from July to June. Marko Mlakar, Managing Partner at EastEuro, a retained executive search firm based in Ljubljana, Slovenia, was elected to Cornerstone’s Board for a first term.
He will have primary responsibility for Cornerstone’s European Region, plus he will actively participate with other Cornerstone Board Members regarding issues affecting this Top 10 global organization in its other seven regions of the world.
Marko Mlakar, Managing Partner at EastEuro Slovenia, an executive search firm with the offices in Budapest, Bratislava, Bucharest, Belgrade and Ljubljana. He started his professional career in Slovenian company IMP Engineering. After several months he founded his own company dealing primarily with textile and clothing trading. During the period 1995-2004 he worked as the first Commercial Advisor at the American Embassy in Slovenia, being responsible for all commercial activities of the mission. During that time he was instrumental in setting up American Chamber of Commerce in Slovenia where he held Board position for almost 6 years. Together with a partner from Hungary he established EastEuro Slovenia in 1997, at that time one of the first retained executive search firms in the region. In 2004 after leaving the Embassy he took over the managerial role and became Managing Partner responsible for firm’s operations in Adriatic region (Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro). The company soon became market leader in several industries in Slovenia and is currently experiencing fast growth in all the markets covered.
Mlakar is extremely active in a number of institutions and currently serves as a Board Member at Young Managers Association, Union of Christian Business Executives of Slovenia and Bled Management School Alumni Club. In 2006 he was elected Member of the Executive Board at on of the most eminent regional think-tank’s TRANSFUSE (Transatlantic Network for the Future of South-East Europe). Marko is completing his Masters thesis in Business Finances and Banking at the University of Maribor, having completed a B.A. in Marketing at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Beside his professional memberships he is serving also as a Vice-President of Lions Club Ljubljana Ilirija.
